Susie Coupar, The Lady Gardener

With 3 small children and a move to North Berwick, Susie has been able to revisit her love of gardening and garden design. She is currently undertaking a voluntary gardening apprenticeship at Greywalls, writes a gardening feature on blogweeslice.com and regularly uploads picture and vlogs from her @The_Lady_Gardener Instagram page.

Recent & Current Projects

Having designed several gardens from scratch and carried out all aspects of project management, she is pursuing her love of garden design having started her own EL garden design and planting planning business “The Lady Gardener”.

My love of gardening properly kicked off in my late 20s, when I entered the Stockbridge Colonies garden competition and won “Most Improved Garden” I was delighted. I had never won anything before and for the first time I realised I had a hobby that I was actually quite good at.

Sunken Garden, North Berwick
Objective - take a concrete space on two levels, child unfriendly, and create a safe, stylish, beach garden, friendly to children, with privacy from neighbours. Entered garden into Gardeners World garden competition for best use of small space
Secret Café, North Berwick
Objective - with no budget, create an evergreen, low maintenance rooftop garden in the heart of the town, surrounded by flats and coastal winds
North Berwick Nursery School, North Berwick
Objective - design 9 different pre school friendly garden areas. Led team of 60 volunteer on a "project garden SOS" day.
Lower Colony Flat, Stockbridge, Edinburgh
Objective - with minimal budget, clear overgrown area, re landscape, design and plant
